Recording of Daniel Purcell’s Judgement of Paris

This September, I’ll join Julian Perkins and Spiritato for a recording of this little known work by Henry Purcell’s younger brother Daniel. Written in 1701, it was one of the first operas to be performed in London and thanks to a new edition by William Russell we are able to bring this forgotten masterpiece back to life. The music is glorious and we hope this work will shed new light on an exciting and inventive composer working at a time of great musical and social change.
